There are approximately 140 000 people in Ancient Athens in which 40 000 are citizens. Though Athens had slaves, this is considered the birthplace of democracy. Ancient Athens was a direct democracy, which meant the citizens could directly consent the council on their or his conflict. This way of democracy made the Ancient Athenian citizens satisfied with their government, and their plans.
The government of ancient Athens was based on 3 main pillars:
These three pillars shaped ancient Athenian democracy, and it's civilization. The Athenians took government very seriously, and it was a citizens responsibility to take part in the democracy.
The Athenians believed that it was fair if every citizen got a chance to cover a position and/or take on a responsibility. Each class of people would be treated differently, based on their circumstances. Slaves were treated with less respect than citizens, and no slaves were treated better than other even if they were better. The same goes with citizens, women, kids, and metics.
