Athenians could bring complaints to a magistrate, who were chosen by a lottery. The jury would also be chosen by a lottery, but they have to be a citizen over 30 . There would be about 501-1500 citizens chosen to be on the jury. During a case, women could take part but they have to have a citizen speak for her. Metics were allowed in on cases, but just couldn't be on the jury. Nowadays, professional lawyers speak for us but Ancient Athenians had to argue their own cases. The jury would decide to vote the accused innocent or guilty.
