CHECK LIST

1. High school credits- Ensure your students has completed all required courses/credits for graduation. Check grades and absences with the principal

2. TSI testing- Ensure your students has passed all components of the TSI testing. This is available for free at Shamrock High School and is offered throughout the semester. This is a college entrance exam that is required by most colleges.

3. Apply for college- Seniors should have already applied for at least one college. (If not, please encourage your child to make a plan for his or her future after graduation.) We understand that college is not for everyone, but there are other options such as a trade school or family business. We want to help ensure that your child is successful after graduation in their future endeavors.

4. Follow up- Next, follow up with the college to make sure that they received the application and check with registration to see what other documents are needed. Also, contact the housing department if students plans on staying on campus. A dorm deposit is usually required and an application must be submitted.

5. FAFSA- Most all colleges will require that incoming and returning college students/parents fill out a FAFSA form for financial aid. Many students will qualify for grants and/or student loans. Students/parents may begin filling out FAFSA beginning October 1st and the deadline is June 30th. Requirements are listed in the FAFSA link below.

6. Scholarships- Every scholarship that the counselor receives will be posted on the scholarship page as well as in Google Classroom. Each student has a login to this page and can fill out the application there. Once each scholarship is filled out and submitted, the counselor will print and mail the scholarship. Please check that page often, as scholarships are updated regularly.

7. Follow up AGAIN-Parents and students, please check and check again. Contact the admissions office, financial aid office, and housing to ensure that are requirements have been met and that no other documents are needed.

8. Register- Once all documents have been received and the green light has been given, schedule an appointment with an adviser to sign up for classes.

9. Books- A list of books will be available on your student class syllabus. If you have access to the ISBN number, books are typically much cheaper on Amazon, eBay or half.com.

*A Meningitis shot is a requirement for most colleges.
