What does it mean to have empathy for other people?
How can empathizing help us to find solutions to a creative problem?
This is the first step in the Design Thinking process. Our goal in this step is to LOOK👀, LISTEN👂, and LEARN🧠to better understand the problem from another person's perspective or point of view.
Watch the video for a few examples of what empathy looks like in the real-world.
Give at least one example of empathy you saw in the video OR an example from real life. Share and post your answer using the link to the Padlet on the right.
The first step in our Design Challenge is to Empathize.
The goal is to look, listen and learn.
We want to understand the problem and learn about things from Caine's perspective.
WATCH the video and answer the questions about Caine's Arcade along the way.
Reflect on the following guiding questions while watching the video:
What is Caine doing? Why is he doing this?
What do you know about your audience or user?
Use the Empathy Map in Google Classroom to think about what you have learned about Caine as a game designer.
How has Caine (game designer and producer) empathized with his potential arcade players and customers (consumers)?
What do Caine's customers say, do, think, and feel?
Design your IDEAL arcade game
Sketch-notes are simple drawings that show your ideas using pictures rather than words.
Remember, this is not about making a beautiful work of art. The goal is to brainstorm and get your ideas down on paper.
You will have 3 minutes to sketch note your ideal arcade game.
REMEMBER...
Sketch-noting is not drawing to create art. Sketch noting is drawing to make your thinking visible. Don't worry about making things pretty or perfect. Focus on getting your ideas on paper!
Use the timer to help you keep track of time while you are sketch-noting
