Art Electives

Middle School Art Electives

Middle school elective classes for art this year include Ceramics, Advanced Ceramics, Watercolor, Sketchwalking, Creative Art Journaling, Intro to Art for 6th graders, Calligraphy, Sculpture, and Fiber Art. Past art electives have included Painting, The Art & Culture of Japan & Italy, Mahjong, and Painting.

Current class offerings may have a different name but will include time with drawing, painting, art history, printmaking,  sculpture, etc. Art classes run on a three day schedule with two electives each day. With this rotating schedule,  I will basically see these students three times within a two week period.

Specialty Block Class Mission Statement

The mission of the Middle School Specialty Block is to offer students the opportunity to grow, learn, and strengthen their critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills through a wide variety of courses in Art, Music, Physical Education, Foreign Language, and STREAM.

The curriculum in these courses adds to the education of the whole child, which is one aspect of our school’s Mission Statement. With the foundation of the Archdiocese Universal Curriculum, the SGM Specialty Block courses are designed to challenge students and help them push themselves to learn that they are capable of growth and development of their minds as well as their character. In addition to students’ core curriculum, Specialty Block courses provide students the environment to apply key scholastic and problem solving skills.

It is through the support of the SGM faculty and Middle School parents collaboratively working together that Middle School students will take ownership of their learning in the Specialty Block classes.
