The Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University was established on 1 May, 1983 and renamed in 2005 as "Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University" in honour of the great social reformer Sant Gadge Baba. He disseminated the significance of cleanliness, education and environmental awareness for the wellbeing of mankind. The beautiful and green campus of the university having rich flora of around 59,117 plants and serves as an oxygen tank over spread over 480 acres with 34 PG departments and a Model degree College at Buldhana with well-equipped laboratories and a Central Instrumentation Cell. The University Teaching Departments have received grants by various funding agencies, viz. UGC, DST-FIST, DBT, SAPI and II, RUSA, MHRD, DRDO, RGSTC, and AICTE.
