Everyone feels depressed at times. A depressive disorder, otherwise known as clinical depression, causes symptoms that affect how you feel, think, and handle daily activities such as sleeping, eating and working. These symptoms must be present daily for most of the day for at least 2 weeks.
Persistent Depressive Disorder- having symptoms of depression that last for one year in teens and children and two years in adults
Bipolar (Manic Depression)- dramatic shifts in a person's mood, energy and ability to think clearly. A person's mood can be extremely energized or very sad.
Major Depression- having symptoms of depression every day, most of the day for 2 weeks or more.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)- is a depression that comes and goes with the seasons. It can start in late fall and winter and be gone in the spring and summer.
