Elementary NEWcomer eld Instruction
Explore the Newcomer Instructional Guidance for district-adopted newcomer ELD materials. Elementary teachers can also support newcomers by understanding the education history of the student, leveraging ML assets, and utilizing ELD scaffolds highlighted in each curriculum. Multilingual Learners (MLs) will also benefit from vocabulary front-loading, multimodal technology support, and academic language practices.
This year, SFUSD purchased Imagine Learning licenses for elementary newcomer students at schools with 10 or more newcomers. Imagine Language & Literacy uses engaging, interactive games, books, songs, and videos to teach language and literacy concepts like letters and sounds, rhyming, vocabulary, spelling, reading comprehension skills, and more.
