Welcome to Marina Middle School!
My name is DaeSean Jones, and I serve as Marina’s 8th Grade Counselor, Multilingual (EL) Coordinator, and Head Coach of Track & Field. I am honored to be part of such a dedicated community of educators and families, and I look forward to supporting our students as they navigate middle school and prepare for high school and beyond.
As the 8th Grade Counselor, my role is to provide both academic guidance and social-emotional support to students. This includes monitoring academic and attendance progress, facilitating restorative practices, guiding high school planning, and assisting with personal or social challenges that may arise. I work closely with teachers, administrators, and families to ensure students are supported holistically and have access to the resources they need to succeed.
In addition to counseling, I coordinate services for our Multilingual Learners, advocating for equitable opportunities and ensuring compliance with district and state policies. As Head Coach of Track & Field, I have the opportunity to mentor student-athletes, helping them build discipline, confidence, and teamwork both on and off the field.
A little about me: I was born and raised in San Francisco and am a proud graduate of SFUSD schools (Rosa Parks ES, Presidio MS, George Washington HS). I grew up in the Fillmore district with my mom, two brothers, and sister. After earning my bachelor’s degree at Utah State University, I returned home to pursue a Master’s in Counseling Psychology at the University of San Francisco, with concentrations in School Counseling (PPS) and Professional Clinical Counseling (PCC). Prior to joining Marina, I worked nearly a decade at Booker T. Washington CSC and also facilitated a lunchtime young men’s group here at Marina.
Fun fact: I’m a fan of all Bay Area sports teams… with the one exception of being a Dodgers fan (LET'S GO DODGERS!).
Most importantly, I believe middle school is a critical time where students experience incredible growth, personal and social challenges, and self-discovery. My passion is helping young people recognize their strengths, build resilience, and step into the next stage of their lives with confidence. I’m here to support both students and families as we work together to make these years meaningful and memorable.
