Welcome to Marina Middle School!
My name is DaeSean Jones, and I serve as Marina's 8th Grade Counselor, Multilingual (EL) Coordinator, and Head Coach of Track & Field. I am honored to be part of such a dedicated community of educators and families, and I look forward to supporting our students as they navigate middle school and prepare for high school and beyond.
As the 8th Grade Counselor, I provide students with both academic guidance and social-emotional support. My responsibilities include monitoring academic progress and attendance, facilitating restorative practices, supporting high school planning, and helping students navigate personal and social challenges that may arise. I work closely with teachers, administrators, and families to ensure that each student is supported holistically and has access to the resources they need to thrive.
In addition to counseling, I coordinate services for our Multilingual Learners, advocating for equitable opportunities and ensuring compliance with district and state policies. As Head Coach of Track & Field, I also have the privilege of mentoring student-athletes, helping them develop discipline, confidence, perseverance, and teamwork both on and off the track.
A little about me: I was born and raised in San Francisco and am a proud graduate of SFUSD schools, having attended Rosa Parks Elementary School, Presidio Middle School, and George Washington High School. I grew up in the Fillmore District with my mom, two brothers, and sister. After earning my bachelor's degree from Utah State University, I returned home to pursue a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of San Francisco, with concentrations in School Counseling (PPS) and Professional Clinical Counseling (PCC). Prior to joining Marina, I spent nearly a decade working at Booker T. Washington Community Service Center and also facilitated a lunchtime young men's group and Black Student Union (BSU) here at Marina.
Fun fact: I'm a fan of all Bay Area sports teams... with one exception—I proudly cheer for the Dodgers. (LET'S GO DODGERS!)
Most importantly, I believe middle school is a pivotal time in a young person's life. It is a period marked by tremendous growth, self-discovery, and inevitable challenges. My passion is helping students recognize their strengths, build resilience, and move confidently into the next stage of their lives. I am committed to partnering with students and families to make these middle school years both meaningful and memorable.
