Students enrolled in a Physical Education course at Burton will explore many diverse physical activities, and will learn a wide variety of fitness concepts that they will be able to use in their everyday life. Students will learn how their body works by studying static/dynamic balance, linear/rotary motion, anatomy and biomechanics. Lifelong skills – such as golf, tennis, Frisbee, and Badminton, along with stress management concepts incorporated into Yoga are taught.
Students will develop a sense of high self-esteem, belonging, and accomplishment through completion of cardiorespiratory fitness activities and routines. Students also will develop personal fitness goals, and learn to physically care for their body. Integrated cognitive assignments will show that content areas of Science, Social Studies, Math, and English are relevant throughout Physical Education, and apply in our everyday activities. Assessments and quizzes are given throughout the course to assess content understanding. After completion of this course students will have the knowledge to stay fit and active for a lifetime.
