This Late Work Policy is designed to provide a fair and consistent framework for addressing late assignments and projects. I believe that punctuality and responsibility are important skills for students to develop as they prepare for higher education and their future careers. This policy outlines the guidelines and consequences for submitting late work, while also providing students with opportunities for support and improvement.
Policy Guidelines
Submission Deadline:
All assignments and projects are expected to be submitted by their respective deadlines, as communicated by the teacher.
It is the responsibility of the student to be aware of and adhere to the due dates. All electronic assignments are due by 8:00 am. Anything submitted thereafter will be considered late.
Late Work Categories:
Late work will be categorized into two groups: excused and unexcused.
Excused late work refers to situations where a student has a legitimate reason for missing the deadline, such as illness, family emergencies, or other circumstances approved by the teacher. *Please refer to the Absences Tab for the policy regarding making up work.
Excused Late Work:
Students and a guardian must notify the teacher as soon as possible if the student is unable to meet a deadline for an excused reason.
Excused late work will be accepted without penalty so long as the Absence Policy is followed.
Unexcused Late Work:
Unexcused late work refers to situations where a student fails to meet a deadline without a legitimate reason or without prior communication with the teacher.
Unexcused late work will be subject to penalties.
Penalties for Unexcused Late Work:
Late assignments will be accepted within 24 hours of the original due date and the student's grade will be deducted by 50.
After 24 hours the assignment will not be accepted, and the student will receive a grade of zero.
Make-Up Opportunities:
I am available during lunch, before school, and after school and will gladly offer the opportunity for students to make up late work during this time as long as the student communicates this request in advance.
Parental Communication:
Parents or guardians can stay informed of late work issues through regular check-ins on the student's PowerSchool account.
Parental involvement is encouraged in addressing late work concerns to provide support and motivation for the student.
Continuous Improvement:
This policy aims to teach responsibility and time management skills. The teacher may also provide guidance and resources to help students meet their deadlines.
Exceptions:
Exceptions to this policy may be granted on a case-by-case basis, with the discretion of the teacher and school administration, depending on the unique circumstances.
Electronic Submissions:
Students must communicate with the teacher via email when electronic late work has been submitted.
Late Projects:
Students who turn in projects late will receive 10 points off every day the project is late. After 5 school days, late projects will not be accepted.
This Late Work Policy is intended to be a guideline for students and parents/guardians. Its primary goal is to foster a sense of responsibility and accountability. The teacher reserves the right to make adjustments to this policy as needed.
