What is the Celebration of Writing and why do we do it? Learn more about the event in this informational video created by the Writing Program.
The first Celebration of Writing was held in 2011 and has been held every semester since. It is a SHU tradition that celebrates the hard work of first-year writing students, providing them with the chance to talk about their research with the campus community as the semester winds down.
Hear more about the COW in these student newspaper articles:
"SHU students participate in writing conferences" (from 5-5-17 issue of Setonian Online)
"Writing students display projects at annual event" (from 11-27-12 issue of Setonian Online)
See last year's winners of the Celebration of Writing awards below! Peers select the People's Choice Award, while the Andrea R. Acker Professor and Staff Choice Award is selected by faculty and staff attendees. The Professor and Staff award is named in honor of Andrea Acker, a beloved, long-time faculty member in first-year writing at SHU who passed away in 2019 after a courageous ten year battle with breast cancer.
