The Placement Assessment

After students log in to the ALEKS Homepage:

  • First time user will be directed to a Student Survey

  • After completing the Student Survey, students will then be directed to a Tools Tutorial to learn how to navigate the software, input answers, and use the online calculator and graphing tools.

  • Students are encouraged to spend as much time as they need in the Tools Tutorial. Any time in the Tools Tutorial does not impact Placement results.

  • Students will be directed to the Placement Assessment after completing the Tools Tutorial.

  • Students will be guided through several animated pages providing additional tips and information before taking the Placement Assessment.

  • Students will be given another opportunity to practice inputting answers before they begin.

  • Time limits were set by the MEC. These images do not depict actual time limits.

After completing the Placement Assessment, student immediately see their result. Students will see which course(s) matches their current mathematical knowledge. Students should confirm with their advisor which course is appropriate for their major. Students may schedule any course with a cut score at or below their ALEKS assessment result.

Students will also be able to see a breakdown of their knowledge by topic. It is important that students know how to interpret their results and how to increase their mathematical knowledge in the Prep and Learning Modules.
