Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! Below, please find tips for starting the year and the syllabus for your child's course. If you haven't already, please complete the parent survey.
NOTE: We will not be using a physical workbook this year because we are using a variety of resources including the online, interactive Desmos curriculum, teacher-created resources adapted from Carnegie Learning, and others. All resources are common-core aligned. The Geometry curriculum is aligned with Fremont High School's Geometry curriculum.
Here are some details about the platforms we will be using during virtual learning:
Google Classroom: This will be used on a daily basis and will be where all assignments, classwork and independent work, will be posted. If you are interested, parents are able to get daily or weekly emails that will alert you to missing assignments your student may have. Our class website is connected to google classroom and all assignments will show up on our class calendar on the day it is due if you are interested in seeing what work is due.
PowerSchool: This is where grades and attendance will be posted. This will be almost identical to previous years. Different from the third trimester of the 2019-2020 school year, there will be grades and I will be taking attendance everyday.
Zoom: This is the video conferencing app we will be using for virtual learning Please take some time to make sure your student knows how to log into a zoom call with their first and last name. We will be using the waiting room feature as added security but this means that students will need to log in using their names in order to be admitted into class.
Flip Grid: This is a website where students may be asked to post a short video sharing their thoughts on a math problem or in response to a question. If students are uncomfortable with having their face shown for this, they can place a “sticker” virtually over their face as long as it is appropriate as it is for the whole class to watch and possibly respond to, based on the assignment.
Pear Deck: This program makes our class slideshows interactive so that students will be able to work directly on the slides. Some of their work may be shared through this but it will be anonymous to their classmates.
Google Calendar: This is where all zoom codes for class will be found and it will be linked to our google classroom so that all assignment due dates will also show on student calendars.
For detailed information about each course, please visit your child's digital class syllabus. There is also a course-specific site page embedded in this website with google calendars by period.
