Collect and Analyze Data
Once you have determined appropriate research questions, it is essential to identify data collection and analysis methods that will answer the questions. Your evaluation may focus on quantitative data, qualitative data, or a combination of data sources (known as a mixed methods study).
Quantitative data sources focus on numeric information and allow for greater opportunity to applying insights from your results to a larger setting. Useful data sources include administrative data (such as demographics and student course records from your institution) or from surveys.
Qualitative data sources focus on non-numeric information and allow for more in-depth study of participant perspectives and to explain results in detail. Useful data sources include focus groups, interviews, and document analysis.
