Southeastern offers two initiatives that give students the opportunity to earn college credit before graduating
high school: Dual Enrollment and Early College High School. Starting in the spring semester of a student’s
freshman year, students can take classes through Southeastern’s partnership with Massasoit Community
College. The classes that students take are free of cost and will ultimately save students tuition fees and time
later on. Whether a student wants to be actively involved in the program or wants an occasional college class to
supplement their schedule, Southeastern has a program for them.

Dual Enrollment courses are individual college courses that count towards credit on both the high school and college
transcript. These classes are taken one course at a time as opposed to a full course load. The Dual Enrollment courses are
held at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School. The classes are held after the regular school day and
each class may meet up to two times per week. Students start in Dual Enrolment and often matriculate into the Early
College High School program. Students may earn up to 12 college credits in the Dual Enrollment program.

The Early College High School Initiative is a program that allows students to earn a high school diploma and an associate
degree or a significant amount of credit towards a degree by taking college courses that also meet the high school
graduation requirements. The ECHS courses take place on the campus of Massasoit Community College. Students
typically start in Dual Enrolment and matriculate into the Early College High School program. The ECHS Associate
degree program is a minimum of 63 college credits.

Southeastern is offering both opportunities to our students. We are committed to preparing our students to have the
knowledge and skills necessary for success no matter what their post-graduation plans may be.

DUAL ENROLLMENT

Dual Enrollment is open to all students provided they have met the following criteria:

● Good academic standing
● Open to all grades
● Attendance rate of 92%
● Willing to enroll in college courses from 2:30-3:50 on a weekday. Classes may meet two days per week, typically on Tuesday and Thursday
● Students new to Dual Enrollment must attend a 7-week College Success Seminar from 2:30-3:20 on a Monday or Wednesday at Southeastern. This required face-to-face time enforces good study habits, note-taking, and the qualities associated with a successful student.

For spring 2023, Southeastern will offer Dual Enrollment courses after school. Massasoit professors will teach the following college courses at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School:

Dual Enrollment Courses at SERSD

Speech and College Success Seminar - open to all students
English Composition I - must have completed Speech and passed the writing Accuplacer test
Sociology- must complete English Composition and achieve the Massasoit threshold scores on the Reading, Writing and Math Accuplacers
History of Art- complete English Composition and achieve the Massasoit threshold scores on the Reading, Writing and Math Accuplacers

Students have the option of attending additional classes over the summer at their own cost. For additional summer courses, students may explore the possibility of the Commonwealth Dual Enrollment program (CDEP) at Massasoit to supplement classes they have taken at Southeastern. Please contact Mr. Symynkywicz with further questions about this program.

EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL (ECHS)

The Early College High School (ECHS) is open to juniors and seniors provided they have met the following criteria:

● Good academic standing
● Have met Massasoit’s threshold scores on Accuplacer Reading, Math, and Writing Exams
● Have demonstrated success in previous dual enrollment courses
● Attend the mandatory new student orientation with their parents/guardians. Students going to the Massasoit campus will attend their vocational program on their vocational week. Because every vocational program is different, the Director of Career Services and teachers will customize experiences to meet each program’s requirements. Here are some examples:

● Students will attend their vocational program on their regularly scheduled week.
● Students will attend Massasoit in person on their academic week
● Students will continue to have Massasoit academic work on their shop week. The academic work will be remote.
● Seniors and Juniors (in February) may participate in a co-op experience during their shop week.

What does ECHS look like for students?

Academically, our students will be kept in a cohort on the Massasoit campus and will have the same courses. There may be multiple sections of the same course. Massasoit will manage the registration process for ECHS students. Massasoit cannot accommodate requests for certain class sections, days or times. At times, students may be placed in courses outside of the cohort due to the student’s specific academic/graduation/degree requirements.
