What is Dual Enrollment?
Dual Enrollment courses are individual college courses that count towards credit on both the high school and college
transcript. The Dual Enrollment courses are held at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School after the regular school day and
each class may meet up to two times per week. Starting in the fall semester of a student’s sophomore year, students can take classes through Southeastern’s partnership with Massasoit Community College. The classes that students take are free of cost and will ultimately save students tuition fees and time later on. Whether a student wants to be actively involved in the program every semester or wants an occasional college class to supplement their schedule, Southeastern has a pathway for them.
Dual Enrollment is open to all students provided they have met the following criteria:
● Good academic standing
● Open to all grades
● Attendance rate of 92%
● Willing to enroll in college courses from 2:30-3:50 on a weekday. Classes may meet two days per week, typically on Tuesday and Thursday
● Students new to Dual Enrollment must attend a 4-week College Success Seminar from 2:30-3:20 on a Monday or Wednesday at Southeastern. This required face-to-face time enforces good study habits, note-taking, and the qualities associated with a successful student.
Below are a sample of classes that are offered through Dual Enrollment:
Speech and College Success Seminar - open to all students
English Composition I - must have completed Speech and passed the writing Accuplacer test
Sociology- must complete English Composition and achieve the Massasoit threshold scores on the Reading, Writing and Math Accuplacers
Film & Society- complete English Composition and achieve the Massasoit threshold scores on the Reading, Writing and Math Accuplacers
Nutrition- complete English Composition and achieve the Massasoit threshold scores on the Reading, Writing and Math Accuplacers
Students have the option of attending additional classes over the summer at their own cost. For additional summer courses, students may explore the possibility of the IDEA (Individual Dual Enrollment) program at Massasoit to supplement classes they have taken at Southeastern. Please reach out to the Dual Enrollment Coordinator for more information.
Enrollment in Spring Classes beginning in January will begin in October of 2025. Please look out for information from the Dual Enrollment coordinator and other Southeastern newsletters.
