Shadows Silhouettes and Reflections

How can i capture a new place through shadows, silhouettes and reflections.

I went on a weekend college tour up to the bay and spent my time shooting in the city, photographing friends and scenery that stood out through SSR. These images were taken over the course of three days and as a series are cohesive in subject, color and use of SSR

This assignment was interesting for me to go back to some basic principles and prompts in my photography and forced me to use my photographic eye more intentionally than when I typically photograph a new place. On one hand it limits much of what I would have chosen to shoot but the end result is much more cohesive and pairs well all together.

Most of my images were taken walking around based on compositions I saw but a few took planning and trial and error, such as the window frame self portrait. For this shot I knew when I saw the windows I wanted this shot. I set up an external camera remote and played around with boxes for a makeshift tripod to get my desired composition. For the image of the dog in the car when I saw it I knew the reflections off the window would compliment really well with the natural framing of the car window, but I had to be patient and try a few different shots as the dog was moving around.

Of Course these are not images that I am super proud of because of the simplicity. I am pleased with many of them and overall feel that they suit each other well as a series and served as a unique travel tool for me to perceive my trip through.
