Senior Portraits

How can i capture my peer’s personalities through portraits

These images compositionally are all very simplistic as they follow essentially the same composition in a basic yearbook portrait format. Students came in with props that they felt embodied them or correlated to their senior superlative. The inspiration being school id photos many schools do with props.

I had a simple lighting set up of one lamp and I took most of my images in one session. I used a cool WB and editing to compensate for the yellow hued lighting. The main issue I ran into were the drastic shadows my lighting produced and adjusting my setup for 35 different subjects. This is unusual from the portraiture I typically do as I tend to focus on 1-3 people at a time so changing my lighting for each subject was unusual.

I really do love these photos not because they are particularly strong from a technical aspect but because I do see the personalities of my peers really taking the spotlight in each and every one of these images. When placed all together they capture the essence of our class and highlight each individual.
