ASSISTANT DIRECTING / CREATIVE TEAM
We are currently accepting applications for student leaders to join the CREATIVE DIRECTING AND PRODUCING TEAM for COMMUNITY GARDEN!
Thank you for your interest in joining the Creative Team! Specifically, we are looking to fill the following roles:
Music / Composition Assistant Director: This is someone who has an ear and talent for all things music. We are seeking to include live music/instrumentation to accompany various points of the show. This Assistant Director would coordinate with interested actors/musicians, seek out student composers (or do their own composing/arranging!), and work closely with Ms. Cain to align the music with the staging and pacing of the production. Would not be needed at every rehearsal. One candidate will be chosen.
Movement Assistant Director: At the beginning and end of our show, we will utilize movement to visually tell the story of a close-knit and joyful community - a community that dances with and uplifts one another. This Assistant Director would help choreograph those larger moments of movement-based storytelling, as well as smaller moments during transitions. Would not be needed at every rehearsal. One candidate will be chosen.
Audience Engagement / Improv and Experimental Theatre Assistant Director: Before the show begins, we are exploring the idea of having an outdoor garden installed on campus, near Carrington. The members of the Ensemble will likely be improvising and interacting with audience members, sharing insights into how to garden and care for the plants (and each other). The goal will be to make the audience feel part of the world of the show before the show begins. Some light-hearted humor to build connection will also be key. This Assistant Director would facilitate exercises to rehearse with the Ensemble and prepare them for such endeavors! Would not be needed at every rehearsal. One candidate will be chosen.
Outreach / Volunteer Coordinator: This Assistant Director would help plan, schedule, and coordinate field trips for the cast and crew to visit and volunteer at local Community Gardens. We are hoping to have at least 2-3 excurcions throughout the duration of the production. This is a low-commitment leadership role. One candidate will be chosen.
Producing Assistant Director: This Assistant Director will assist with Producing Tasks (creating the programs and helping design the show T-shirts, taking detailed rehearsal/blocking notes, coordinating show/rehearsal photography, helping keep track of technical production timelines and to-dos, taking attendance, documenting cast and crew paperwork and headshots, decorating lobby and helping coordinate volunteers and concession sales, etc). Up to two candidates will be chosen. Strong organization and attention to detail is a must. Attendance at most rehearsals is a must.
To apply for any of the role(s) detailed above, please fill out the Google Form linked below by the end of the day on FRIDAY JANUARY 12. *UPDATE: Application Deadline has been extended to Monday January 22; although, please note that we already have multiple stellar candidates for Music/Composition, Audience Engagement/Improv, & Producing assistant roles - applicants who submitted their apps by the original deadline and prefer being on the creative team above being a cast member are being given priority consideration*
