SEQUOIA DRAMA PROUDLY PRESENTS THE LIGHTNING THIEF: THE PERCY JACKSON MUSICAL
Adapted from the best-selling book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an exciting, action-packed musical about one hero’s journey to prove themselves and protect their community. As the half-blood child of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can't control, a destiny he doesn't want, and a mythology textbook's worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus's master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back, solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend, and come to terms with the father who abandoned him.

Audition Song
All actors can choose between two options for their audition song: a cut from Prologue/The Day I Got Expelled or a cut from My Grand Plan. See materials below. Anyone can choose either song, and we advise you to choose the song that best showcases your vocal abilities. If you need help deciding, we recommend attending the Audition Workshop on Friday August 15 during lunch.
Option #1 - Prologue/The Day I Got Expelled: Sheet Music, Instrumental Audio Track (what you will hear during your audition), Example Vocals
Option #2 - My Grand Plan: Sheet Music, Instrumental Audio Track (what you will hear during your audition), Example Vocals (sung an octave lower)
At your audition, Mr. Jefferson will accompany you with piano.
Character Breakdown
Please review this character breakdown prior to your audition.
Remember your vocal audition also serves as your acting audition. Think about how you can best showcase your unique interpretations of these dynamic characters!
Recommendations
It is strongly recommended that you listen to/watch/become familiar with the show, story, and characters as much as you can prior to your audition. The more knowledgeable you are about the style, characters, and themes of the show, the more acting choices you will feel confident making in an audition.
Show up a little early to your vocal audition. Stay hydrated throughout the day. For the dance audition, wear comfortable clothing you can move in, if you have long hair - tie it back, and wear dance shoes if you have them (if not, it’s okay, but at least wear closed toed shoes).
You may be asked to show your singing range during the vocal audition. Try to just breathe and remember we are there to support you by seeing your potential & preparedness for certain roles in this show – NOT to judge or negatively evaluate you in any way! HAVE FUN!
At the (optional) Audition Workshop & Information Session on Friday, August 15, we will review the audition song, provide tips and advice for auditioning, and answer any questions you might have about participating in a Sequoia Drama Production.
In the event that you are unavailable for auditions (but have no other significant schedule conflicts), please contact Ms. Cain in early August about the possibility of submitting a virtual audition.
CALLBACKS will take place after school from 3:45pm-6:30pm in Carrington Hall on Thursday, August 21. Callbacks will help us determine the casting of principal and supporting roles. A callback list with materials will be posted on our website after dance auditions are complete. We recognize you will not have time to individually prepare for callbacks at that point; therefore, we strongly recommend you dedicate time to becoming familiar with the show/music as best you can prior to auditions. We also will review and give you the chance to briefly practice all music before you are asked to sing at callbacks. Keep in mind that not everyone will be offered a callback, but you can still be cast in the show without being invited to callbacks. The final cast list will be posted by the end of the day on August 24.
REHEARSALS begin August 25 and take place Mon-Fri after school. A full and detailed rehearsal calendar will be provided with the cast list. In order to fully commit to this production, you should plan to be available after school on a regular basis. You cannot participate in the musical if you have other regular/reoccurring after-school commitments. Please also reference our conflict policy and be prepared to list all known conflicts on your audition form.
