SEQUOIA DRAMA has two mainstage productions per year; a Fall Musical in the first semester and a Spring Play in the second semester. There is also a student-written and produced production in late second semester put on by the Drama Club. Sequoia students of any and all gender identities and expressions, racial and ethnic backgrounds, and physical and cognitive abilities are welcome and encouraged to audition.
***If all slots for vocal auditions get taken, please plan to come at 6pm on Tuesday or Wednesday to Carrington Hall. We will audition everyone who would like to audition! Thank you for your understanding and patience. More slots have been added as of 8/15, too!
***If you would like help preparing for your vocal audition or have questions about the audition song, please come to M2 during lunch on Monday 8/17 to see Mr. Jefferson!
Become familiar with the show by studying the character breakdown, listening to the music, and further researching the fairytales and characters. The first page of the breakdown document also contains some notes/expectations related to various casting considerations.
All students interested in auditioning will be required to sing a pre-cut selection from the show's opening number. In the linked folder above, you will find the sheet music, along with Mr. Jefferson's various recordings. He has provided you with an example of the vocals, an instrumental track that has both the accompaniment and vocal melody part, and an instrumental track that is "accompaniment only" - which is what you should prepare to sing along with during your vocal audition.
You may notice that this song selection features multiple different characters' parts. We do NOT want anyone to try and portray and jump between multiple different characters within their vocal audition. Instead, we advise that you choose between two approaches: choose one character from the show and sing/act as that character for the entire song or create your own general character from the world of the show that demonstrates your understanding of the show's style and themes. You may tell us beforehand that you will be singing the opening as the Baker/Jack/Witch/Cinderella/etc or as no specific character, just as if you belong to the woods. By choosing a specific character, you will not be limiting yourself; meaning, we will of course consider you for more than just the role you choose to perform as. Your vocal audition also serves as your acting audition, so it is important to prepare strong acting choices.
Please fill out the mandatory Google Form linked above, schedule your vocal audition for Tuesday August 18th or Wednesday August 19th after school, and be expected to attend dance auditions on Thursday, August 20th from 4-6pm. You should also ensure you are available Friday, August 21st for callbacks from 4-7pm in the case you are invited to attend.
The rehearsal calendar is still being adjusted, so please expect changes. We are sharing the sample production calendar to give everyone a general sense/example of what to expect in terms of timing commitments should they choose to get involved with either cast or crew.
Have questions or want to learn more? Attend the information meeting on Friday, August 14th during lunch in Carrington Hall. This meeting will go over both the tech crew registration and audition process. We will share tips for auditioning and review the audition song as well.
