Mission
MISSION STATEMENT
Sequoia students founded March for Our Lives Sequoia Union to advocate the end of gun violence and adopt new reforms to prevent massacres like the Parkland shooting. Even though March for Our Lives is a national organization, the district chapter spreads the March for Our Lives agenda on a local scale. Members support the mission through practical letter writing, educating themselves on politics, hosting webinars, and promoting campaigns.

ABOUT US
A coalition of activists determined to solve the systemic inequalities of modern society.
What is the goal of March for Our Lives?
March for Our Lives is a global organization founded by the survivors of the Parkland shooting. After witnessing the violence firsthand, many students realized the severity of the gun violence epidemic and are now determined to end it with a nationwide demonstration. Even though March for Our Lives Sequoia Union is a modest chapter within the national organization, the team believes their impact is much more significant than one would expect.
When does the chapter meet?
March for Our Lives Sequoia Union meets weekly on Tuesday's from 1:05 pm to 1:40 pm. Chapter meetings consist of a variety of initiatives and educational curriculums centered around gun violence prevention. Typically, the chapter forms a new campaign bimonthly.
What opportunities does the organization provide?
In the 2020-2021 school year, the former March for Our Lives Sequoia school chapter transformed into the March For Our Lives Sequoia Union district chapter, broadening its influence and power to initiate positive, progressive, and constructive change all across the community. More specifically, March for Our Lives Sequoia Union recently formed a Gun Legislation Unit, teaching members about the history of firearms within the United States. Moreover, the chapter has established a quarterly Webinar Program, inviting guest speakers ranging from local politicians to state directors.
What are the chapter's most memorable projects?
Voter Registration Drive:
A notable project that has influenced the community is the "Get the Vote Out Campaign," initiating an educational campaign to teach students about voter registration. Today, the chapter aspires to have an inclusive and welcoming community by voicing and cooperating with other clubs at different high schools to ensure all students are heard. A raffle was established to incentivize young voters to (pre)register for their ballot.
Webinar Program:
The organization has invited many keynote speakers and activists from around the country to inspire members. This consisted of four remarkable speakers in the past year, including Laura Parmer-Lohan, Jose Castro, Maya DeGanyar, and Michael Ndubisi.
Gun Legislation Unit:
As an educational curriculum aimed to inform members about gun control, the Gun Legislation Unit allowed students to learn about gun legislation from a county, state, to a national level. Students participated in various creative activities and games throughout the curriculum to study the transformation of American history pertaining to gun regulation.
More Information:
