Here is a collection of everything I have written on ScotScoop. So far, I have covered campus, news, and have had the opportunity to express my own opinion too.
When thinking about my time at Carlmont. I remembered the days when I could wake up at 8 A.M. with time to spare. I then proceeded to write an editorial on behalf of Scot Scoop expressing that we should go back to the old schedule because it was a better use of time all around.
When I saw all these precedents being overturned -affirmative action, abortion- I really took the time to think about the legal implications of such decisions. I came to the conclusion that the supreme court was abusing its power and expressed that in my editorial.
This is the first time I got to cover something that happened on the spot. In light of a black student that got arrested, the BSU organized a protest standing up to police brutality. I got the chance to take photos and interview the BSU student advisor, Jeremy Arey in this article.
It's widely agreed that the education system needs some reforms, and I believe the way they can do so is by implementing more critical thinking. By teaching people how to think, we can sift through all the propganda that is thrown at us by the government and especially national media.
The Second Amendment has been the result of shootings around the nation that have resulted in people fearing for their lives. This shouldn't happen, and to solve this problem we must greatly reform the Second Amendment to have it adapt to modern times.
The scientists that do more harm to society than good are the ones that make products addictive, particularly social media. As a result of these scientists making these products addictve to the extreme, people around the world are suffering.
Like Apple, I felt NASA has not innovated as much as it used to, epsecially in the 1960s glory days. There is so much to explore, and I feel NASA hasn't gotten around to exploring it and they have been trying to repeat the past by going back to the moon.
While taking notice of the Iran protests, my classmates and I decided to create a feature package covering these protests. Emma Yin and I wrote a section on how the Iranian regime's actions had violated human rights.
For my final news article of the semester, I covered the impact of online learning both in the past and the potential impact of online future in the future. It is a longer article, so it goes very in depth into the online learning world.
My feature for junior year deep dives into the world of forensic science, an interesting but often undervalued aspect of law enforcement. This feature outlines how forensic science helps with law enforcment and how it has been used to catch criminals throughout history.
When Elon Musk bought Twitter, he announced big changes. Starting with firing a ton of employees, he then loosened censorship and allowed people to have a blue checkmark for $8 for month. With these changes, many people got concerned over how the new Twitter could affect free speech.
Putin announced that Russia would be conscripting citizens in order to support the war effort in Ukraine. As a result, hundreds of thousands of citizens started fleeing from potential turmoil. In addition, it showed how Russia was trying to annex Ukraine and what is to come in the future.
All throughout California, advertisements about Proposition 27 were being displayed everywhere like on the internet, television and so much more. With this came with a lot of curiosity about what Proposition 27 is. I then wrote about it and found out how the advertisements impacted the community.
At the start of this school year, I wrote about Joe Biden's plan to reduce college costs through loan relief. While people thought it was a step in the right direction, the process towards making college affordable still has a long way to go.
The Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers were favored to win the NBA championship, but fell far short of those expectations. In this opinion piece, I found out why these superteams failed and why teams will be hesitant to build superteams again.
Many people believe that Artificial intelligence will destroy the world or take all our jobs. I believe that those beliefs are false and even if those things happen to an extent, the benefits of artificial intelligence will far outweigh the cons.
I had always been fascinated with the phenomenon of forgetting, and I decided to write my first feature article on it. This article explores how both students and adults alike experience forgetting and how they combat it.
I noticed that everyone around me was losing sleep, and I decided to write an opinion article on it. I found that society had placed a stigma that sleeping was for the weak, but in reality the benefits of sleep are all lost when one is sleep deprived.
Nowadays, Apple seems to be mostly doing the same thing. The same phone, but just a little bigger and with a slightly improved computer chip. This is a stark contrast from the days of Steve Jobs, when Apple literally changed how the world works.
The carbon tax will set a price for every ton of carbon emitted. I believe that the carbon tax has the potential to make huge progress for stopping climate change because of its potential to disincentivize polluters from continuing to harm our air.
Carlmont's associated student body hosted a food drive to help people in need. I covered how they were able to get their point across, and how students did their part to donate.
In the 2021-2022 school year, Carlmont introduced a new social studies course for freshmen called Ethnic Studies. I covered how difficult the class would be, and how much workload students get from it.
