Gender equality, or gender balance, is treating both women/girls and men/boys, equally and giving each other the same rights, privileges and responsibilities. Gender inequality, or gender unbalance, is giving women/girls and men/boys unequal rights, privileges and responsibilities. Approximately one and a half year ago, I experienced gender inequality. That opened my eyes and that is why I chose gender equality for my grade 5 exhibition. Although gender equality isn't the biggest issue at SFS, it is still an issue worldwide. To find out if gender equality is a big issue to people, I sent out a google form to my classmates. One of my questions in my survey was "Have you ever experienced gender equality?" 60 percent of the people said yes. (Click the button on the very bottom to see my survey results). Seeing the results, I believe that gender inequality should be reduced as much as possible at SFS.
Gender inequality causes violence against women
In some countries, women experience gender violence: hitting, punishing, touching inappropriately, and more. Example: In some places in the world, a man would hit and kick their wife if he were displeased.
Gender equality gives everyone equal opportunities
Men and women will be able to have same rights and freedom, which allows them to have equal opportunities. Example: Being able to talk freely the same as another gender makes them able to talk, argue and agree with each other without having consequences.
Gender equality's better for children
Children will be more happier when they are not judged by their gender and when they grow up gender equality will be spread too and it will repeat. Example: Children learn many things about life from their parents; if their parents have bad influence on them, the children will have bad influence on other people the same way their parents did.
Gender equality is peaceful
There would be less complaining about why and who’s doing what which creates more peace. Explanation: Many people argue in a normal day about who's doing what. It's common when you are a toddler, child, teenager, or an adult. Sharing responsibilities will give them less things to fight about since there will be no need to argue.
Gender diversity benefits your actions
Having gender diversity allows people to have more opinions of the same topic and that prevents rash mistakes. Explanation: Everyone has different opinions, and having many and finding the best opinion/thought/solution, may benefit people's choices.
