How to stay productive while working from home!
The cold winter months have arrived and, for some of us, this means that we might be working from home a bit more often than usual.
We would like to share some tips with you on how to stay productive.
Get up early!
It can be tempting to want to sleep in when you don't have to rush to get ready to go to the office. But, if youβre having a hard time staying productive, sometimes getting up early is a good strategy. Set an alarm for an hour or so before your spouse, kids or roommate wake up. Make yourself a cup of your favorite morning beverage and dig into your emails or one of your heavier assignments. Youβll be surprised at how much you can get done when the house is quiet.
Make a To-Do list!
Keep yourself accountable with a daily to-do list. Make this the day before or as soon as your day starts. Jot down what you need to get done and preferably by what time. The goal is to pull up that list as soon as you log on in the morning to help you get off to a good start.
Set times for checking e-mail
Unless your work requires you to be on email 24/7, designate times when youβll check it. If your inbox is constantly up and in view, any new message can be a distraction. It can take you away from your task at hand, disrupt your focus and extend the time it takes to accomplish your to-doβs. Tending to email may be more efficient when done in chunks.
Take (scheduled) breaks
You can only work for so long. If you really want to be productive, consider taking regular breaks and give your mind (and body) time to recharge. Every hour or so, take at least a few minutes to stand, refill your water or pet your dog.
A few times a day, take longer breaks to interact with others, too. Take a walk or pick up the phone and call someone to see how they're doing. Take your mind off work for a bit, to help yourself recharge.
