The Appalachian Mountains are to the west of Virginia's capital city.
The Chesapeake Bay is to the east of Virginia's capital city.
Richmond is the capital of Virginia. Senators and Delegates come to the Capitol to make laws.
Washington, D.C. is the capital of the United States.
Richmond is approximately 100 miles south of Washington, D.C.
The General Assembly first met in Jamestown in 1619. In 1699 a decision was made to move the capital of Virginia from Jamestown to Williamsburg.
The capital of Virginia remained in Williamsburg from 1699 to 1780.
The General Assembly of 1780 decided to move the capital of Virginia from Williamsburg to Richmond for its central location.

The Virginia State Capitol building is located in the capital city of Richmond at 1000 Bank Street. Senators in the far southwest, mountain region of our Commonwealth are closer to five other state capitals than their own!

On the key points handout, draw a solid line that connects the dots in numerical order. Once the dots are connected, you can decide how to color the river, mountains and other parts of the state.
