Mondays - Grade 8/9
Wednesdays - Grade 7
Fridays - Grade 10/11

Week of May 25-29

Join the Experiential Education department to learn about the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award. All students in Grade 9 are registered to complete the award. We'll explain the four program components and how to log your hours in the Online Record Book.

Friday's session with Grades 10/11 will focus on how to complete your level while staying at home.

Week of May 19-22

Join the House Heads from both Middle and Senior School to talk about what events and initiatives worked well this year and discuss/brainstorm plans for next year!
Friday's session for Grade 10 & 11 will focus on a personal values leadership exercise!

Week of May 11-14

In this week's workshop join Mr. Deegan as we examine the Selwyn House School garden project that started four years ago alongside the Lucas building and in front of the Macaulay building. We are envisioning a project that involves an outdoor learning space, a space to play, a sustainable gardening space and a place students and staff can use to disconnect from the classroom.

We need your help to create a green space that meets all of these needs. Come and share some ideas while we go through some of the existing issues concerning the project.

All are welcome!

Week of May 4-8

Interested in planning school events and activities, but not sure where to start? Join the Experiential Ed team this week to learn the ins and outs of planning a house event, fundraiser, or a generally fun activity at Selwyn.

Week of April 27-May 1

Resume Building Workshop (Grades 8-11): Join Mr. Lane as he demonstrates how to build an effective resume to help you get started on your job search or application for post-secondary options. Mr. Lane will also spend some time on career exploration profiles and Ms. Prieur will review student portfolios.

Words Matter (Grade 7): Ms. Prieur will give a workshop looking at how our actions impact others in our community.

Week of April 20-24

Grassroots Initiatives in the Spirit of Earth. Join Mr. Grier and Ms. Prieur to hear about stories of action that are helping to change communities for the better. It's Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22 and the purpose of this workshop is to inspire you to take action in your daily life!

Week of April 13-17

In this Outdoor Ed workshop we are going to be talking about how to find out direction using shadows. There are several methods and natural tools we can use to orient ourselves, but we are going to look at the shadow compass which is a simple, fast, and accurate way to find direction if we don’t have a compass. You will need a blank sheet of paper, a pencil, a protractor if available (or large bottle to trace a perfect circle), a nail or a pin.

You can also watch this video on making a sun dial that Mr. Deegan made last week to help grasp the basics beforehand.

Week of April 6-9

Leadership is a mindset, not a status. Join this workshop to learn about how your personal values should guide your decisions whether you're leading on the field, in the classroom or in a formal leadership position at school or in your community.

Week of March 30-April 3

Community Engagement: How to help others in our community during the COVID-19 crisis. We'll talk about the effects of isolation and loneliness on those who are most vulnerable, and you'll learn how you can help make a difference by connecting with seniors from the Contactivity Seniors' Centre in Westmount.
