Grade 1A student Kai Mendell, along with his sister Noa organized a Build It Forward drive to collect Lego pieces/sets for quarantined children who are in need of activities to help pass the day. Working through The Nellie Foundation, Kai arranged for people to drop off their Lego at the IGA in the Cote Saint Luc shopping centre on Sunday, May 31. All collected Lego pieces will be sterilized, packaged and delivered to the appropriate communities in need.
The Our House committee has put together some content on various issues that you should check out if you're looking for something to watch. Click here to find their list of recommendations. Please note that some of these movies/talks may contain mature themes - viewer discretion is advised.
Just like in the past few weeks, we will be holding another activity for you all to participate in. This week, it's a super simple Scavenger Hunt! You can do it while out on a socially distant walk or whenever you get the chance to go outside. It's a great excuse to get some fresh air and a lot of House Points.
The rules are quite simple. There are 14 different things to find. Every time you find one, take a picture and send it to either Isaac (capei@selwyn.ca) or Jonah (rosenj@selwyn.ca). Deadline for submissions is Wednesday, May 13.
Participation has been really great so far so keep it up!
Good luck,
Your Prefects
The Selwyn House Space Club is still meeting virtually! Sign up at this link: https://discord.gg/euZKd7u
This week, the Prefects challenge you to send in a 30-second to 1-minute video of what you do during the day while you're in quarantine. Shots of you should be taken at various times during the day. Make it interesting and creative!
The deadline to submit your clip is this Sunday, May 3, and winners will be granted house points, a late start day and a free dress day. Send your submissions to kastnerb@selwyn.ca. Good luck!
The Global Student Leadership Summit (a bi-annual conference held in London, ON) was supposed to have recently taken place, and a group of Selwyn boys were supposed to be there to gain critical knowledge about leadership and school spirit. Unfortunately, it was canceled when we found out we'd be home following the March Break.
The organizers recognized how important that experience is for students and teachers, and so they're inviting anyone who'd like to join to attend a series of events for the new Global Student Leadership Day (May 6-7, 2020). They have more than 30 speakers on board for presentations that will take place during the two days. Most of the sessions take place in the afternoon and evening, so there's no excuse to miss classes (sorry).
If you have a passion for leadership and want to learn skills to create change in your school, I highly encourage you to join me and check out the GSLD on May 6 and 7.
Check out the video highlights from the 2018 conference.
It's time to THANK the frontline workers who are out there keeping our communities safe, healthy, clean, and delivering things to our homes. Submit your clip saying "Thank you to the frontline workers" to social@selwyn.ca to be a part of Selwyn's thank you compilation video.
In celebration of Earth Day, the Sustainability Squad has come up with a Bingo activity to challenge us all to think more about our daily habits. Small changes can make a big difference! We hope all Selwyn House families will participate.
Thanks to all of you who sent in your videos of your totally awesome trick shots! Here is a video of the 5 best ones - see if you agree!
