Our general policy is not to recommend that students ask for retroactive withdrawals if they were in a position to withdraw in the before the deadline. Getting to beyond the withdrawal date and realizing they are going to fail a class is not a reason for a retroactive withdrawal request. But, there are circumstances that occur that prevent students from withdrawing through the routine process before the deadline. In those rare circumstances, the information you need is below. They appeal with the dean of their major (or Dr. Procopio if they are under 30 credits and UNDECIDED).
Only extenuating circumstances will be considered for retroactive withdrawal (or resignation).
Here's what it shows on the university website: https://www.southeastern.edu/resources/policies/academics/index.html
After the deadline to withdraw or resign:
Students must contact dean and request retroactive withdrawal
Only circumstances beyond student's control will be considered
Appeal must be submitted before the last day of classes for semester
Please contact your academic dean by email. When you email the dean, please include your W# and provide documentation of your extenuating circumstances. The emails and written documentation will be forwarded to an appeals committee.
A Registration Appeal, on the other hand, is a process by which a student request to have all of their classes removed from their schedule, as though they were never enrolled. Here's the Registration Appeal Process that describes appropriate reasons for registration appeals (medical, natural disasters, etc.).
If students need to resign from the university BEFORE THE DEADLINE TO WITHDRAW, they need to follow the steps outlined here: Resignation Procedure
