The SEIU National Member Organizing Program, provides members with organizer skills training, first-hand learning through campaign experience and opportunities for members to build community with member leaders across divisions while contributing to priority campaigns of the union. La Brigada provides locals with support, resources and best practices to further develop their member organizing programs.
See this LaB Program Description.
Curriculum: The classroom learning component is a combination of skills training and organizing education (sociopolitical; racial-economic; labor etc.). Three separate tracks of development are available to member leaders:
Beginner (Organizing Conversations)
Intermediate (Developing Leaders/Moving Turf)
Advanced (Leading a Team of Member Leaders)
Campaign Experience: Participants will have the opportunity to develop and apply learned skills on priority campaigns across the union, experiencing various stages of campaigns across different industries.
Cohorts: Participants will have the unique opportunity to work and learn together with member leaders across the country, from different industries and divisions.
Development Plan: Skill assessments will be completed upon entry and departure of the program, as well as the tracking of workshops and campaign work. Member leaders will also work with their local union representatives to exit the program with a work plan to apply the skills they’ve learned upon returning to their local.
Workshops: The virtual member workshops program provides locals with the opportunity to further invest in their member leaders through online learning opportunities that allows members to improve their organizing skills as well as develop a deeper understanding of our core principles of organizing and building power.
Facilitation Skills: Participants will have the opportunity to learn from members that have effectively completed the brigade program and continue to apply their learned skills as well as learn new skills around facilitation.
