Directors

Ms. Rios is from Luling, Texas where she attended Luling High School. She then went to college to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. 

As a student at TLU, she was a part of the Guadalupe Brass Quintet and the TLU Wind Ensemble all four and a half years. She was the Principal Horn Player for two years, Section Leader for one year and Student Conductor for one year. She also was President of the Bulldog Band Association her Senior year and Vice President of Special Projects for Tau Beta Sigma. While attending Texas Lutheran University, she studied french horn with Dr. Mary Ellen Cavitt. She has also served as an adjudicator for several TMEA and ATSSB Region auditions. Ms. Rios is a member of the Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Music Educators Association and an Alumni of Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority.

This will be Ms. Rios’ third year as the Head Band Director at Jim Barnes Middle School and her ninth year here in Seguin ISD. She teaches beginner Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba and Percussion; and the Wind Ensemble. She has received Sweepstakes with the Symphonic Band in previous years and also the Wind Ensemble the past two years. She is very grateful to have started her career here in Seguin and is excited for what this coming year has in store!

In her free time she enjoys watching sports, reading, playing pickleball, spending time with family and friends, and relaxing with her dog Copper!

As a native of Seguin, Mr. Zukerman is thrilled to be returning to Seguin ISD as the new assistant director for the JBMS Band. While at Seguin High School, he was actively involved in band as a drum major, wind ensemble member, saxophonist in the premier Seguin Saxophone Ensemble, and a member of the TMEA All-State Band in 2019. Following his graduation in 2019, he stayed in the city to study music education and performance at Texas Lutheran University. While in college, he performed on a variety of instruments such as bassoon, oboe, French horn, clarinet, and his primary instrument, saxophone. Mr. Zukerman completed his degrees in 2023.

Previously, Mr. Zukerman has worked as a marching band tech for Seguin, Canyon, and Clemens High Schools, as well as a private lesson instructor for Music & Arts in New Braunfels. His experience as a full-time director began with Westfield High School in the 2023-2024 school year and SCUC ISD in the 2024-2025 school year. Currently, he is a performer in the San Antonio Wind Ensemble on saxophone. 

In his spare time, Mr. Zukerman likes to spend time with family and friends, compose, play video games, and hang out with his two cats, Gus Gus and Finn.
