About: 1 year program for DC residents ages 18-21 that provides an opportunity to become members of DCFEMS. During the program, Cadets obtain their National Registry EMT, Firefighter I & II, and Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations Certificates.
Eligibility: DC resident; DC public, public charter school, or private school graduate, ages 18-21, cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, Driver’s license or permit (must have a valid license by the end of the program)
Screening Process: Personal history application, criminal background check, provide a copy of driving record from the DMV, pass a physical and psychological exam, provide reference checks, U.S. citizenship, and selective service verification (for males only)

About: Part time (if still in HS) or full time specialized program for 17-24 year olds to serve as uniformed, civilian employees and take college courses to eventually enter the MPD’s Police Officer Recruitment Program
Eligibility: U.S. citizen, D.C. resident through entirety of program, 17-24 years old (can apply as a HS junior or senior), complete background check, pass a polygraph if over 18 years old, pass a medical evaluation, COVID vaccination, High school diploma or GED
Application Process: Complete an interest card and receive an invitation to an upcoming orientation, attend orientation, undergo a panel interview, receive permission from parent or guardian if under 18, undergo a background check, undergo a polygraph test if over 18, submit to a medical evaluation, MPD review and decision
