Ensembles

Tiger Pride Marching Band

One of the most prominent student organizations at Smith-Cotton High School, the SCTPMB plays at all home football games as well as several regional competitions throughout the fall. We also play host to the Smith-Cotton Marching Invitational, where we welcome hundreds of students to compete in marching field shows, indoor percussion, and indoor color guard.

Concert Band

The Concert Band is an audition-based group open to band students from 9th-12th grade. In this ensemble, students work to continue to hone the skills that they began developing in junior high band in order to achieve their own highest potential level of achievement. The band has represented the Sedalia 200 School District at the Missouri Music Educators Association Clinic as well as at various other regional festivals and world-class performance venues. Students in this group compete in MSHSAA Music Festival events in the spring. This year, the band will travel to Chicago, Illinois for several performances and a clinic at Vandercook College of Music.

Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble is an audition-based ensemble that meets daily during the school year. Students in this ensemble will explore various genres and styles including swing, blues, rock, bebop, fusion, latin jazz, and more. The Jazz Ensemble performs at our home concerts and also travels around the region to perform in various jazz festivals.

Pep Bands

The Pep Bands perform at basketball games and other spirit events throughout the year. The goal of the pep bands is to provide an exciting and electrifying atmosphere at our school's sporting events. The pep bands play a wide array of song covers from pop, rock, and more.

Winter Guard/Winter Percussion

These are audition-based groups that meet starting in the late fall after marching band season. Rehearsals are held weekly and performances are given locally. The Winter Guard and Winter Percussion also travel to regional competitions annually.

Junior High Bands

Students interested in band at Smith-Cotton Junior High School are enrolled into grade level-based ensembles that meet daily. Students enter 6th grade with no prior experience on their instruments, and this three-year course sequence is designed to prepare them for the rigors and excitement of high school band. These groups perform concerts locally throughout the school year.

Interested 7th and 8th grade students may participate in the Junior High Jazz Band, which meets outside the school day in the spring semester each year. This group performs on concerts alongside other district ensembles.
