邢嘉力 Jiali's Personal Website

Welcome to my site!

I'm a PhD student in the DSL (Distributed System Lab) and Computer and Information Science Department at University of Pennsylvania! Before coming to Penn, I finished my Master of Science in Economics and Computation (MSEC) at Duke University in 2020.

I am fortunate to be advised by Vahid Tarokh (before I transferred to Penn) and Benjamin C. Lee. My research interests lie in the intersection of Distributed Systems, Architecture, and Economics.

Research

Recently, with Akis, Konstantinos, Shuyue, Paul, Henri, Justin, and Ben, we have been working on an efficient and scalable overload control system for microservices, current under review!

My work at Meta about sustainable datacenter power management is also under review.

At the same time, Ben and I are finishing another paper of Hybrid Resource Fairness, for the microarchitecture resource allocation.

Previously, David Fischer, Nitya Labh, Ryan Piersma, Benjamin C. Lee, Yu Amy Xia, Tuhin Sahai, Vahid Tarokh, we have wrote Talaria, a simulator for Permissioned Blockchain.

Name

My name is 邢嘉力, and they are just logograms, thus not bound to any sound, e.g., not Jiali. If they have meaning in your eyes/languages just go with that pronunciation, e.g., 가력, or かりょく, Gaa-Lik, or gia-lực. I also have non-嘉力 names: Γιάννης, यिंग गा लिक, ஜிஎ லி.

Otherwise, you can call me Jolly or Gary (2-approximation). My friends usually don't know how to spell Jiali :)

Me

Used to be ENTJ, now ENFJ-A. Anarchist, and self-forgiving person.

Site

Sadly my WordPress site died during the summer when I tried to install WireGuard VPN on that server, so that old website will no longer be updated. Farewell, WordPress!

My Life

In daily life, I mostly enjoy or think about, in order, my beloved friends, Politics, Meaning of life, FOSS, Hackable Systems, Meme, Game Theory, Anthropology, Philosophy, Psychology, Mechanism Design, History, Classical (Chinese) Literature, Linguistics, AI, and Social Choice, Math, Stats

Yet in real life, 邢嘉力 write segment faults, design funky mechanism on top of buggy system, and then compare it against shitty baseline models with their irreproducible code——reproduce the irreproducibles!
