Personal Care Training and Certification

School districts may enroll in the Arkansas Medicaid Personal Care Program to receive reimbursement for medically necessary, hands-on assistance provided by trained personal care paraprofessionals, including support with bathing, dressing, eating, personal hygiene, mobility, toileting, and medication administration. To be billable, personal care services must be included as a related service on the student’s IEP in accordance with IDEA and must be supervised by a registered nurse. School personnel providing these services are required to complete DESE training and certification, be designated with job assignment code 761 in eFinance, and obtain annual prior authorization through the DMS-618 Medicaid form, which must be submitted by the district nurse to Atrezzo via Acentra Health portal for both new requests and renewals.
