The Sealy High School Band is the largest student organization at Sealy High School. There are 2 concert ensembles that meet during the day, as well as a marching band, percussion class, and colorguard. There are also plenty of opportunities for individual performance, such as Solo & Ensemble, Region band, and the Sealy HS Recital.
The SHS Band has a long history of success, including consistent appearances at Area Marching Contest, consistent excellent & superior ratings at UIL Concert & Sight-Reading, and a large portion of students making the region band and getting superior ratings at S&E competition.
The Symphonic Band is the premier group at Sealy ISD, and consists of the school’s most dedicated musicians. Not only that, but these students are supposed to be model band students. It is a PRIVILEGE to be in the varsity ensemble, and that privilege can be taken away due to poor behavior or academic standing. Students are eligible for the varsity ensemble by completing the following requirements:
Auditioning and placing amongst the highest quality musicians in your section.
Auditioning for the All-Region band.
Attending the Solo & Ensemble competition.
Showed dedication through stellar attendance at rehearsals, sectionals, and performances.
Has good academic standing.
Demonstrated maturity through proper discipline and behavior.
The Concert Band is the second band class. All band students automatically are placed in this ensemble, and must earn a spot in the Symphonic Band through the means listed above. This ensemble houses a wide variety of students, including young students who need more time to hone their craft on their primary instrument, students who are talented enough to be in the varsity ensemble but cannot due to a lack of open positions, etc. The goal of students in this ensemble should be to get into the Symphonic Band. These students follow these guidelines:
Students are encouraged to audition for the All-Region Band.
Students are encouraged to participate in the Solo & Ensemble competition.
The marching band is one of Sealy ISD’s largest and most visible groups. It is comprised of every student in the high school band and performs at every varsity football game. The marching band also competes at a variety of marching band competitions, including the UIL Marching Contest. All band students are required to participate in the marching band unless approved by the band director. Students assignments for the competitive marching show will be determined at the start of the fall semester.
Students who play percussion will be placed in their own class. These students will participate in the marching and concert ensembles, while also competing in their own events as a percussion section.
The Sealy HS Colorguard and Winterguard is focused on the visual aspect of our activity, placing an emphasis on dance, choreography, and routines involving a variety of equipment. These student participate in the marching band, but also compete individually in the winter in the TCGC winterguard circuit.
