The Sealy Tiger Band program is dedicated to creating a safe environment in which students can learn important life skills through the medium of instrumental music.
The Sealy Tiger Band firmly believes that success is a byproduct of students enjoying being in the program, directors who are knowledgeable and caring about the students, and a community that backs the program wholeheartedly.
Every student that participates in the Sealy Tiger Band program will leave the program with the following characteristics.
The ability to create measurable goals and a strong work ethic to follow through.
Willingness to accept criticism and negative feedback.
Have intrinsic motivation to always learn and grow in your personal and professional life.
The ability to critically think about complex, divisive, and intriguing topics.
Be an effective communicator and collaborator that functions well in a team.
Punctuality and reliability that builds trust amongst superiors and peers.
Have a positive self-image that cultivates a strong mental health.
Be empathetic and understanding of other peoples’ circumstances.
A deep love for fine arts and a willingness to pay that passion forward into the next generation.
The band program as a whole aims to accomplish the following objectives over the course of the school year:
Students will have a deep understanding of musical knowledge including general music theory, rhythm, and instrumental pedagogy.
Students will develop an athletic approach to marching band and indoor equivalents (winterguard, indoor percussion, and indoor winds).
Students will have steady growth and progression over the course of the year.
Students will be proud members of the band and will advocate for the program.
Students will respect the band including the rehearsal spaces, equipment, and all participating members, including staff, chaperones, boosters, and members.
Students will create a safe space in which all students feel welcomed and valued.
