Intend

The homestead study I did was equipped by ideas of verandah and courtyard being the most equipped arenas and language of plinths expanded all over the house.  Most of the life and interaction happened in the verandah and privacy was maintained in the central part of the house.

How can this objective of co-living spaces be brought to a larger scale of homestay?

Pattern Study

In pattern study, I studied house 02 in which I observed that there was play of plinths throughout the house. Various levels were spread in the house and the bodily interaction and movement shaped the space and it offered various activities to happen.  Spaces were not utility driven but overlap of utilities was observed i.e, dining and sleeping happened in one space, sleeping and living room happened in one space.

Verandah was the most public space where most interaction happened. There was a transactional capacity observed in the house. The house didnt have room sin specific.

Conceptual Ideas

I began the design iterations  by thinking how can the idea of verandah and courtyard  be bought to a larger scale of homestay keeping the language of plinths same in all the units and other spaces. I tried placing outdoor seatings in between the units so that the idea of verandah being the public most place gets shape. Making the dorm as an extension of the caretaker's house enhances the idea of co-living.  The courtyard happens around the existing trees. I worked out by keeping the basic layout of all the units the same but the in between spaces was my main intend.

How can kitchen not be enclosed in four walls only and it be through the idea of live kitchen. Some units have sloping roof whereas some have flat roof which become sun deck to of other units.
