Understanding the Site

//Analysis

The site is present on a mountain range that is a part of the western ghats on the western coast of India, which are known for their stunning hill slopes. The hill slope is varied and dynamic, with different vegetation and geological features due to their varied elevation and exposure to the sun and wind.

The lower slopes are typically covered in lush tropical trees, with dense undergrowth and a wide variety of trees and plants. These forests provide habitat for a diverse range of wildlife, including many species of birds and insects. As the elevation increases, the vegetation changes to include grasslands, shrubs, and montane forests, which are adapted to the cooler temperatures and higher altitude.

The hill slope is also characterized by numerous streams and waterfalls that cascade down the slopes, creating picturesque landscapes. The slopes is now adjusted with smaller retaining walls made by the local basalt rocks that provide an area of smaller flattened lands for usage and even for agriculture, with various crops on the steep slopes.

Intention

//Programs

The design evolved with an intense process of understanding the patterns that emerged from studying the home steads in depth and how it shapes the peoples lives around them while at the same time how its influenced by the same people. The wind patterns, flow of the water channels, and form of the terrain were also ingrained in the design of the flows and form of the design.
