EXPERIMENT 1
AIM: To achieve a minimal structural system using threads with the help of Gravity And Surface Tension.
MATERIALS: Sewing cotton threads, Embroidery threads, Sun board, Dish Washing Soap, Water, Revive.
PROCEDURE:
Make holes in the sun board.
Tie threads to it with approximately 15% over length.
Make a solution of Soap water with some amount of Revive in it.
Dip the threads attached to the sun board in the solution for 5 minutes.
Hang the sun board upside- down till the threads come down by gravity and are dry and stiff.
Turn the sun board upside to achieve a minimal structural system using threads.
EXPERIMENT 1.1: Using both Embroidery and Woolen Threads
Before soaking in soap water & revive
After soaking & drying
EXPERIMENT 1.2: Using Woolen Threads
Before soaking in soap water & revive
After soaking & drying
EXPERIMENT 1.3: Using Embroidery threads
Before soaking in soap water & revive
Soaking in soap water & revive solution for 5 minutes.
After soaking & drying
EXPERIMENT 2
AIM: To test what kind of a form is achieve when water an revive is used as the solution.
MATERIALS: Sewing cotton threads, Embroidery threads, Sun board, Water, Revive.
PROCEDURE:
Make holes in the sun board.
Tie threads to it with approximately 15% over length.
Make a solution of Water with some amount of Revive in it.
Dip the threads attached to the sun board in the solution for 5 minutes.
Hang the sun board upside- down till the threads come down by gravity and are dry and stiff.
Turn the sun board upside to achieve a minimal structural system using threads.
EXPERIMENT 2.1: Non- Uniform shape using Woolen threads
Before soaking in water & revive
Soaking in water & revive solution for 5 minutes.
After soaking & drying
EXPERIMENT 2.2: Uniform shape using Embroidery threads
Before soaking in water & revive
After soaking & drying
EXPERIMENT 2.3: Uniform shape using Crochet threads
After soaking & drying
EXPERIMENT 3
AIM: To obtain a minimal structural system using woolen threads and white cement as the solution.
MATERIALS: Woolen threads, Sun board, White cement, Water.
PROCEDURE:
Make a non- uniform and uniform shape on the sun board.
Make holes accordingly.
Tie woolen threads to it with approximately 15% over-length.
Make a slurry of white cement and water.
Applying it to the threads.
Hang it upside down to dry.
After drying turn it upside to obtain a minimal structural system using woolen threads and white cement as the solution.
EXPERIMENT 3.1: Non- Uniform Shape
Before applying white cement
After applying white cement & drying
EXPERIMENT 3.2: Uniform Shape
Before applying white cement
After applying white cement & drying
EXPERIMENT 4
AIM: To obtain a randomness by using approximately 15, 25 & 35% over-length of jute threads.
MATERIALS: 5mm Jute threads, white cement, water, sun board
PROCEDURE:
Make a non-uniform and uniform shape on the sun board.
Make holes on it accordingly.
Tie jute threads to it with approximately 15, 25 & 35% over-length.
Spray some water on the jute threads and let it soak.
Make a slurry of white cement and water.
Applying it to the jute threads.
Hang it upside down to dry.
After drying turn it upside to obtain a random form.
EXPERIMENT 4.1: Uniform Shape
Before applying white cement
After applying white cement and drying
EXPERIMENT 4.2: Non-Uniform Shape
Before applying white cement
After applying white cement and drying
EXPERIMENT 5
AIM: To make a form using the life size dimensions of a chair.
MATERIALS: 5mm jute threads, white cement, water.
PROCEDURE:
Make a non-uniform shape on the sun board.
Make holes on it accordingly.
Tie threads to it with 30% over-length and arrange them in such a way that there are multiple converging points.
Apply white cement to it.
Hang it upside down to dry at an inclination to obtain a chair-like curve.
After drying turn it upside to upside a chair-like form.
Before applying white cement.
Hanging upside down to dry at an inclination after applying white cement.
