Ratnagiri Settlement Study

We began this module by a site visit to a small village in Ratnagiri called the Sada Mirya. Our group specifically worked on the constructions such as the roofs, the materials of which the houses are made and the different types of doors and windows and how the hinges are placed.

The houses have roofs made of Mangalore tiles with usually a small space left which is covered with glass for sunlight to enter and usually have a truss for adding strength to the structure.

The houses are made of bricks called the cheera which are generally obtained from the laterite soil. Earlier they used to use the Karel Phadi which is also a kind of brick made from the beach sand but is not used anymore.

This is the  Sadamirya area of Ratnagiri which we had visited and then a collective map of all the settlements, beaches and the Mahapurush temple was drafted by us.
