Genealogies and Ontologies

What is a Market?

This site is located on the chandavarkar Road. The building is called the Dattani Trade center.
The site included a commercial complex soon to go in redevelopment behind the building there was a temple, a banquet hall and a haveli.

The plan and the isometric of the site shows the human transactions on the site.

Through observations it was clear through diagrams:

The entrance of the building seems unwelcoming to the everyday public and creates an invisible barrier between the tenants and the people

The corridor aligning the building forms an intimate space which people prefer inhabiting

The inside of the building has no relationship with the outside social life.

Extensions outside the shops creates more affordability and generates interactions

Affordances created by a local chai wala for increasing their customer interactions with the owner as well

Exploring market intimacy formed in the compound of the building but not inside

The scale of the building to the compound is the reason for this dense gathering of people.

Focused group Discussions:

Program Diagrams:

Public plaza and the occupying shops make it interesting for the public to interact

A cantilevered roof to create a sense of openness. A cloud restaurant occupied underneath

Flow of people along the market street

Design Drawings:

Intervening on the commercial site with taking the problems and the opportunities under consideration, I divided the enter G+3 building into 5 different structures with different programs across the site.
