During 1st century Paithan was known as Prathishthana. It was ruled by the Satvahana empire which led to Satvahana dynasty. These rulers were traditionally traders of Silk, local honey, Cotton. They building a trading route in the Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and some parts of Gujarat. Darning this time Prathishthana i.e. Paithan became one of the trade route's capital city. After many centuries this developed into corridors for trading. Paithan was always a heart of the textile business.
Many Buddhist monks travelled through this corridor which led to 455 caves including Kanheri caves. Use of stones and trade of Terracotta objects was very explicit.
The connection of different spaces and different program using corridors was a very fascinating way of looking. Building these types of junctions and connecting corridors and building a museum out of it.
It was very inspiring going through the art and history of Paithan. Extracting the design of the tree and its bunch of leaves inspired to create a space where room with specified programs will be connected to each other using branches.
This journey of fabrication of built form is explored through three processes, first; Developing Conceptual Design here material choices, service considerations and structural stability will become imperatives to develop the systems. Second; Design development & detailing here detailing the above developed systems in a manner that is not only congruent with the desired spatiality, but where the issues relating to efficiency, stability and durability are also considered. Third; Developing working drawings here developing working drawings that could be used for constructing the building.
It is the G+3 structure. Construction is done using stone which gives the space an ancient stone house experience. Stone is a thick and strong material . Because of its thickness the it helps in keeping the hot and dry air out.
The building has a circular movement with an open courtyard . The circular form of the building provides courtyard with shadow. As building is always in shadow it helps in maintaining air continuous air flow and keeping interior spaces cool and comfortable.
It is a Flying staircase completely supported by steel cables which are attaches to steel columns. The steel columns are tied with steel beams on both extreme ends of the column. The steel cables are in tension while they are countered by the compressive stress created in the steel columns and the corridor will help in holding the stairs and the corridor stable. Each steel column will have its own foundation.
The size of Steel column is 0.400 m in diameter.
Staircase has 2 meter wide and 0.15 meter riser.
