1. To identify tectonic characteristics of a given material and express it in the form of opposing spatial experience.
2. To express spatial experience as a constraint e.g. weaving to the choice of construction process.
3. To design a space in order to communicate an architectural experience.
Design a pavilion with an experience of proximity / intimating of size 7000x3500 mm with a longer side facing north. Assume the site to be located in Mumbai and its surrounding close to the Arabian Sea.
Use Timber and construct a Pavilion with given dimensions using the Weaving process to create an experience of proximity/ intimating.
I started making physical model to understand the geometry of weave using arches and curves. Using only arches and curves makes the pavilion as open as possible. The height of the some curves are 9ft while some are 4ft which gives the experience of proximity like you can actually touch them while making room for people to sit and gossip while taking experience of the sea and the atmosphere. The arches and curves are sometimes 10 cm thick and sometimes 5cm thick to poetry the floating nature of the material.
I started by folding curves, making arches and looking it with different angles.
