On a rainy winter afternoon, a solitary figure stands alone while a lacrosse ball bounces repeatedly against the side of a building on the campus of Torrey Pines High.

Below on the playing surface of Ed Burke Field, the Falcons soccer squad is preparing to play a San Diego Section playoff game.

No lacrosse today.
