Access Physical Education & Co-Taught Classes at Oak Crest Middle School
At Oak Crest Middle School, we believe every student should have the opportunity to participate in physical education in a way that meets their individual needs. Access Physical Education provides students with special needs the ability to engage in PE classes with a modified grading scale and appropriate accommodations. The curriculum and activities will be accommodated and modified based on student need.
We also offer a Co-Taught Physical Education class, where students participate alongside their peers in an inclusive setting. Access students and Adapted Physical Education (APE) students who need additional support can be placed in this class. The class includes two teachers—one of whom is an Adapted Physical Education specialist—along with Instructional Assistants (IAs) to ensure students receive the support they need.
In this class, students benefit from:
Modified activities tailored to their needs
Specialized equipment, such as wedges, therapy balls, and mats
Personalized strategies for safe participation in physical education
Wave Pals – Oak Crest’s Inclusive Club
Wave Pals is Oak Crest Middle School’s inclusive club, dedicated to fostering friendships, school connectedness, and inclusion for all students. We meet weekly at lunch to build connections and have fun while promoting an inclusive school community.
Throughout the year, Wave Pals participates in various activities, including:
Organized social gatherings on campus
The SDUHSD District Inclusion Basketball Tournament
A basketball game and school visit to San Elijo Middle School to play their challenged athletes
A school visit to La Costa Canyon High School for a day in PE, helping support the transition for students moving on to high school
These events provide students with meaningful opportunities to engage with their peers, build friendships, and gain confidence as they prepare for their next steps in education.
