In hopes of getting answers to students and parents quickly I have answered many of the FAQs below. Please take a look here before you e-mail or call. If I do get an e-mail with regard to the one of the questions below, I will simply send you a link to this web page.
How do I contact you? The best way to reach me is email: bryn.bishop@sduhsd.net. I do my best to follow-up within 24 hours during the school days on email. It's important that everyone is on the same page and same team to support students. Phone calls answered and returned outside of class time. I do have a family and make a priority to go off-line during evenings and weekends.
How soon should I expect a response through e-mail or telephone from Ms. Bishop?
I receive on average about 50+ e-mails a day and have to respond to most of them. Please allow me 24 hours to respond to an e-mail, longer over weekends and school breaks. I may need to follow-up with your student before I can respond to an email, which may delay a response. If I do not get back to you within the time frame please feel free to e-mail me again. I typically return phone calls before school. Email is the most efficient form of contact. If you would like me to call, please email a number where you can be reached and the topic of concern. Email will usually generate the fastest response.
Please be respectful - requesting an ASAP response is not appropriate. "At your earliest convenience" is more appropriate. I do my best to respond promptly to all emails.
My student is struggling! Science can be difficult for many students; this is most often due to mathematical analysis and abstract thinking. Although students may need additional support(s), please realize your student has class for 90 min/day and communicating with your student's teacher is the first (and best) way to address any concerns.
My student is not getting an A! This is a skills based class that requires content understanding, mathematical analysis and practical (lab) application. It is important to support your student's individual needs and health without adding additional stress and anxiety. Pushing for an "A" can backfire; students can become more stressed and preform worse. Rather than focusing on the grade, please consider asking your student the following:
Can you recommend any tutoring services? CCA teachers can not recommend outside tutoring services. Regardless of permission, I only communicate with students and parents - not tutors. You can choose to share information (Aeries and teacher website) with a tutor.
When are your office hours? My office hours are everyday after school from 3:00-3:30pm by appointment. Before school, at lunch can depend on my schedule, but I usually have professional meetings at those times. While office hours is a time to ask questions or get help on assignments, it is helpful for your STUDENT to tell me at least a day in advance so I can prepare.
