Types of distance education

• Fully Online course - conducted entirely online with no on-campus meetings, exams, or requirements.
• Partially Online Course - more than half of instruction is delivered online or an online course that has at least one required on-campus meeting or exam.
• Hybrid Course - majority of instruction is delivered on campus with less than half delivered online.
• Web-Enhanced Courses (On-Campus Courses) - A traditional face-to-face course that meets on-campus but is supplemented with Canvas. Canvas shells for web-enhanced courses do not replace face-to-face time that is scheduled to spend with students.

The Online Education Initiative (OEI) is a collaborative effort among California Community Colleges (CCCs) to increase student success and completion by working together to increase access to quality online courses and support services for students. We'll also be referring to the OEI Course Design Rubric (Links to an external site.) in parts of this training course. This rubric was created to establish standards for online teaching related to course design, interaction and collaboration, assessment, and learner support.
