Hello students,
We hope you’re all doing well! 😊
We are looking forward to working with you this week as we continue learning and exploring Canvas together. We understand that switching platforms can feel like a big adjustment—and that’s completely normal. If Canvas feels unfamiliar at first, please don’t worry. We will move through it step by step, and we will support you along the way.
You won’t be navigating this alone—we will learn and adjust together.
Steps to Sign in to Canvas
Sign in with your student email
Use your PORTAL password
Complete the two-step authentication
If you are unable to connect to Canvas, please contact Student Support:
• Email: support@student.sdccd.edu
• Phone: 619-388-1140
There is also a step-by-step video showing how to log in to Canvas and navigate the platform. You may watch it as many times as you need to feel comfortable getting started:

We will review everything together during our Zoom sessions as well. Please remember that We are here to support you—don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need clarification.
This Week: The Neuroscience of Laughter
This week we’ll explore laughter—a natural response involving muscles and vocalizations that signals joy and strengthens social bonds. It reflects mind-body interaction and often occurs socially, not just from jokes, helping people connect, communicate, and even navigate social situations.
Last Week: Pain and the Brain
Last week we learned that pain is not just a signal from injury—it is created and interpreted by the brain to protect you. Nerves send danger signals, but the brain decides how much it hurts based on emotions, past experiences, and context. In chronic pain, this alarm system can become overactive. The good news is that the brain is plastic and can relearn safety. Movement, mindfulness, healthy habits, and certain medications can help turn down the pain “volume” and restore balance.
